Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has introduced a new reporting form for Michigan residents to share information about immigration actions in the state. The form is designed to collect reports of alleged misconduct by federal immigration agents operating in Michigan.

The launch was announced during a roundtable discussion hosted by Nessel that focused on United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities in Michigan. The event brought together local officials, law enforcement, legal advocates, clergy, and leaders from affected communities for discussions on the topic.

Nessel said the form is a response to ongoing concerns from people across Michigan. The Department of Attorney General has received over 5,000 emails from the public related to immigration activity so far.

“What we are seeing from federal immigration agents across the country has been deeply concerning,” said Attorney General Nessel. “In Michigan, we do not, and will not tolerate harmful, illegal actions against our residents, and I will not hesitate to uphold the law. That includes investigating unlawful actions perpetrated by a federal officer in our state. This new form allows Michiganders to report alleged misconduct right to my office.”

Residents using the form can submit details such as descriptions of incidents, the number of individuals involved and their agency affiliations, tools or weapons seen, as well as time and location information. Video links or live streams may be included; photos can be submitted by email after instructions are provided via confirmation email. Residents are asked not to post unverified reports on social media.

The submission can be made anonymously. Any contact information given will remain confidential within legal limits. The Department may share relevant information with third parties like local law enforcement if necessary. The office emphasized that this reporting process does not replace emergency or crime reporting through police or 911 services.

Filing a report through this channel does not start a lawsuit or formal complaint process. The Attorney General’s office cannot provide legal advice or represent individuals in court.

According to its official website, the Michigan Department of Attorney General works statewide to protect residents and advance social efforts such as supporting vulnerable populations and addressing human trafficking issues. It also provides initiatives in public service and protection for all Michigan residents (source). Dana Nessel serves as Michigan’s 54th attorney general (source).
