Congressman Tom Barrett invited high school students from Michigan’s 7th Congressional District to participate in the Spring 2026 Congressional Art Competition, according to a Mar. 10 announcement. The annual event gives students across the country a chance to showcase their creativity and artistic skills.
The competition is open to all high school students in the district. The first-place winner will have their artwork displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol alongside other winning pieces from around the nation. In addition, the winning student will be able to travel to Washington, D.C., for a reception with other winners. Runners-up may have their art exhibited in Congressman Barrett’s offices in Lansing or Washington, D.C.
Entries can include paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media works, computer-generated art, and photography. Submitted artwork must not exceed dimensions of 26 inches by 26 inches by 4 inches (including frame) and must weigh no more than 15 pounds.
Last year’s winner was Sophia Juviler with her piece titled “Ethereal Veil.”
The Congressional Art Competition has become an opportunity for young artists to gain recognition at both local and national levels. Students interested in participating are encouraged to review submission guidelines and deadlines.
