Kristi Tucker-Fleischfresser, 39, was arraigned in the 84th District Court in Cadillac on several felony charges following the death of a resident at Pleasant Lake Lodge, where she served as administrator. The arraignment took place before Judge Corey J. Wiggins and was announced by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

Tucker-Fleischfresser faces one count of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of falsifying medical records, and one count of obstructing an investigation. The involuntary manslaughter charge carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years.

The case centers on the death of a 60-year-old woman who was admitted to Pleasant Lake Lodge on November 1, 2022. She had diabetes and was prescribed two types of insulin. On November 5, 2022, she was found dead in her bed. Authorities allege that she did not receive her prescribed insulin and died from complications related to diabetes.

It is further alleged that Tucker-Fleischfresser failed to ensure the resident received her medication and attempted to obstruct an investigation by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) by falsely recording that the medication had been administered.

The case was referred to the Department of Attorney General by the Wexford County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and investigated by LARA along with the Michigan State Police.

“Adult foster care administrators are entrusted with the lives of vulnerable adults, and failing to provide life-saving medication is unacceptable,” said Attorney General Nessel. “Protecting vulnerable adults continues to be a priority of this department. We hope that cases like this resonate with other facilities to underscore how critical it is that residents receive the care they need — otherwise there will be consequences.”

Tucker-Fleischfresser was released on personal recognizance bond but must wear a GPS tether and is barred from providing direct adult foster care while on bond. A probable cause conference is scheduled for March 3, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a preliminary exam on March 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

The Health Care Fraud Division (HCFD) within the Attorney General’s office is handling prosecution in partnership with Michigan State Police. HCFD serves as Michigan’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and receives most funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through a grant totaling $5,517,524 for fiscal year 2026; state funds make up $1,839,170 or about one-quarter of its budget.

The Michigan Department of Attorney General has statewide authority aimed at protecting residents throughout Michigan through public service initiatives and policy actions such as drafting laws for expungement opportunities in recent years. Dana Nessel currently serves as Michigan’s attorney general.

Officials remind that criminal charges are allegations only; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
