Senator Elissa Slotkin, representing Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, shared insights from her recent trip to Port Huron through a series of social media posts. This visit included convening a meeting with regional leaders to discuss local economic concerns and cross-border relations.

During a gathering on April 22, 2025, in Port Huron, “we convened a meeting of 19 local leaders from the city like the Mayor, City Manager, and superintendent, to elected and economic leaders from across the St. Clair County region” Sen. Slotkin mentioned. This meeting brought together various stakeholders to address regional economic issues and collaborations.

Slotkin highlighted the interconnectedness of the “Michigan and Ontario economies” in her post on April 22, noting that their relationship affects the thousands of “nurses that work in our hospitals to the casual visitor who is now concerned about their trip to the US” she stated.

Addressing potential economic impacts, Slotkin tweeted on April 22 about concerns among “economic leaders from the Blue Water Chamber of Commerce” who are monitoring the situation closely as the relationship with Canada may impact local prices and economic stability.

Elissa Slotkin was born in New York City in 1976. She currently resides in Lansing and has been serving in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Mike Bishop. She completed her undergraduate degree at Cornell University.
