Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has issued a notice of intended action to Recollections, Inc., a Michigan company that creates historically themed clothing. The notice comes after more than 50 consumer complaints alleging the business failed to deliver online orders on time or issue refunds for unfilled orders, potentially violating the Michigan Consumer Protection Act.

“Online shoppers deserve timely deliveries and quick refunds when a company cannot fulfill an order,” said Nessel. “When buying anything online, remember to take steps to protect yourself and only shop at businesses you trust. My office will continue to act when companies fail to uphold their obligations to consumers.”

The Attorney General’s office reviewed over 50 complaints submitted through its Consumer Protection Team and the Better Business Bureau. Examples include customers who ordered Victorian- and Edwardian-era clothing worth hundreds of dollars but never received their items or refunds due to reported back orders. In another case, a customer did not receive a refund even after being told by the company it was processing them as quickly as possible.

According to the notice, most complaints follow similar patterns involving unfulfilled orders and unprocessed refunds.

Recollections, Inc. has until December 22, 2025, to work with the Department’s Consumer Protection Team on an assurance agreement aimed at resolving these concerns.

Attorney General Nessel also reminded consumers about safe online shopping practices. She advised verifying retailers’ physical locations and phone numbers before making purchases, researching unfamiliar companies in advance, conducting image searches of products being sold online, paying with credit cards for added protection against non-delivery or misrepresented items, and safeguarding personal information by avoiding sharing sensitive data through insecure channels.

Consumers can file complaints with the Attorney General’s office by contacting its Consumer Protection Team via mail at P.O. Box 30213 Lansing, MI 48909; phone at 517-335-7599 or toll-free at 877-765-8388; fax at 517-241-3771; or through its online complaint form.
