The Michigan Democratic Party has formally opposed House Bill 4765, a measure currently under consideration by the Michigan House of Representatives’ Standing Committee on Elections. The party submitted its opposition as the committee met to discuss the bill, which is backed by House Republicans.
Curtis Hertel, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, stated: “Michigan’s elections are safe and secure, but this bill is not about election integrity, it’s a thinly-veiled attempt by Republicans to make it harder for Michiganders to vote. Michigan Democrats strongly oppose this proposed legislation and any other measures that attempt to disenfranchise citizens from the voting process.
“Republicans know that their toxic agenda of spiking costs and ripping away health care is deeply unpopular, so they’re trying to rig the system and make it tougher for Michiganders to vote. It’s a cheap, desperate move—and Michigan Democrats stand strongly opposed to this bill.”
The Michigan Democratic Party is active in communities across the state through volunteer opportunities and educational initiatives about running for office, according to its official website. The organization advocates on issues affecting families, seniors, students, and veterans while supporting Democratic candidates statewide. Its efforts extend from grassroots activities up to legislative advocacy at the Capitol. The party maintains its headquarters at 606 Townsend Street in Lansing.
