Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th District, recently shared her thoughts on accountability and national security through a series of tweets. Born in New York City in 1976 and currently residing in Lansing, Slotkin has been serving since replacing Mike Bishop in 2019.

In a tweet posted on March 25, 2025, Rep. Slotkin addressed the potential consequences for individuals who disclose information causing significant harm to national security. She stated that such actions “would also likely be reported to the Department of Justice in a ‘crimes report’ for further investigation and potential prosecution,” and would be brought to Congress if necessary (“They would also likely be reported to the Department of Justice…”).

In another post made seconds later, she emphasized the importance of leadership accountability at the highest levels of government. Rep. Slotkin expressed her view that senior officials at the White House should set an example by being accountable, asserting that “no one should be able to put US forces at risk without it” (“I understand that the folks at the White House are…”).

Additionally, Rep. Slotkin highlighted the repercussions an individual might face following a security breach. On March 25, 2025, she noted that depending on the situation’s outcome, someone could be marked as a threat within security clearance databases across intelligence and defense sectors, potentially affecting their future employment opportunities with government or national security contractors (“Depending on the outcome…”).
