On April 13, Slotkin shared her recent visit with Romulus Mayor McCraight to the site of the proposed ICE detention center. We discussed the community’s serious concerns about a detention center coming to this space. Later that day, Slotkin commented on military service members’ obligations regarding unlawful commands. She stated: “I know that our service members up and down the chain of command know their duty and the law to refuse illegal orders. Even as the Commander-in-Chief tells the world otherwise.

Slotkin’s background includes serving multiple tours in Iraq as a CIA analyst alongside military personnel and holding national security positions at both the Pentagon and White House under two presidents. She has also been nominated for assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs (source). In Congress, Slotkin serves on committees related to armed services, homeland security and governmental affairs, agriculture, and veterans’ affairs (source).
