Senator Elissa Slotkin, who represents Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently raised concerns on social media about key provisions and potential impacts of President Trump’s latest legislative package.

On July 21, 2025, Slotkin posted: “Three parts of President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill that were tucked away deep in the text: A tax deduction for private jets, changes on gambling taxes and a huge carve out for Big PHARMA.”

The following day, Slotkin addressed funding issues regarding medical research. In a tweet dated July 22, 2025, she stated: “This Administration wants to cut cancer research by 40%, and no one will pick up the phone to answer my question: Why? Watch my discussion on cancer research with @KatieCouric and Dr. Jamie Bernard of MSU.”

Slotkin also emphasized the local ramifications of federal policy decisions in another post on July 22, 2025: “Our local leaders are going to be the first to have to make tough decisions when the changes from President Trump’s big bill hit Michigan. It will be felt in every community. Yesterday, I held a meeting with 400+ local leaders across Michigan to talk about this bill’s impact on”

Elissa Slotkin has served as a member of Congress since 2019 after replacing Mike Bishop as representative for Michigan’s 7th district. She was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. Slotkin is an alumna of Cornell University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998.
