Senator Elissa Slotkin, who has represented Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, recently addressed concerns on social media regarding federal law enforcement actions and state pride.
On January 25, 2026, Slotkin posted about public reaction to recent events involving federal forces: “Since the killing of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal forces, I have heard from Michiganders of all political persuasions — including folks who actively avoid politics. That’s because Michiganders see themselves in what is happening in Minnesota. And it is not just”.
The following day, she criticized the conduct of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and announced her legislative stance: “Americans can see with their own eyes. ICE and those under their command are not acting as responsible law enforcement agencies. They are recklessly inciting violence at the whims of the President. They must be reined in. I’ll be voting no on the Homeland Security funding bill.” This statement came amid heightened scrutiny of federal agencies’ actions.
Later that same day, Slotkin marked Michigan’s anniversary with a celebratory message: “Ope, Happy 189th birthday to the best state in the country! Home to Motown, the Detroit Lions, tart cherries, and so much more. There’s lots to love about you.”
Slotkin was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. She graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998.
