Elissa Slotkin, a U.S. Congress member representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, shared her views on recent legislative developments concerning the GENIUS Act through a series of tweets on May 8, 2025.

Slotkin expressed her decision to vote against proceeding with the GENIUS Act. She stated that although she was initially considering supporting the bill aimed at regulating the cryptocurrency industry, “Republican leadership snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.” She invited followers to review what transpired in detail here.

In another tweet, Slotkin explained that there had been “a bipartisan bill that was negotiated in good faith between Democrats and Republicans on the Banking Committee.” The expectation was for this bill to be voted on by the Senate floor next here.

Slotkin criticized Republicans for altering the bill after it passed committee voting. According to her, they attempted to push through a diluted version instead. Ultimately, both Democrats and some Republicans opposed bringing this rushed version to the floor here.

Elissa Slotkin is currently serving in Congress representing Michigan’s 7th district. She replaced Mike Bishop in 2019 and has continued her work in Lansing where she resides. Slotkin holds a BA from Cornell University earned in 1998.
