Lightner says car insurance reform benefits already coming to fruition

Car

State Rep. Sarah Lightner (R-Springport) announced that a fee reduction from the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) is just the beginning of what drivers will see due to car insurance reform.

The vehicle assessment beginning July 2, 2020, will be reduced to $100 from the current $220, according to a press release. Lightner championed car insurance reforms.

"The cost of legally driving in Michigan has taken a toll on many families and for decades, people have demanded their elected officials step up and address the issue head-on to deliver the rate relief they deserve,” Lightner said. “We approved a historic reform overhaul earlier this year to do just that, and it’s exciting news to see our changes already starting to deliver results. Beginning in July, drivers will see and feel real, guaranteed savings in their car insurance policies.”

The rate is the lowest since 2003, according to the release. It will be charged to all drivers who have unlimited lifetime personal injury protection benefits on their policies.
