Sen. Michael MacDonald (R-Macomb Township) praised the Michigan Senate for approving his resolution chastising the governor for her lackluster response to rampant unemployment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

MacDonald’s resolution, Senate Bill 690, not only condemns Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for failing to address the debacle at the state’s Unemployment Insurance Agency but calls on her to work on the claims backlog.

“The governor has demonstrated a lack of preparedness, responsiveness and leadership in addressing issues at the UIA, which has failed unemployed Macomb and Michigan workers,” MacDonald said, according to MiSenateGOP. “The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on our state. Over 62,000 residents have been infected, more than 5,800 people have lost their lives and millions of workers lost their jobs. The lost jobs caused Michigan’s unemployment rate to skyrocket to 24% in April — the second-highest rate in the country and the worst since the Great Depression.”
