Charlotte Public Schools issued the following announcement on Aug 23.
The Varsity Football home opener is Thursday, August 26 against the Olivet Eagles
While temperatures approached 90-degrees in the second week of August, cool fall evenings and gridiron glory was on everyone’s mind when Oriole high school athletes and coaches took-the-field in preparation of the upcoming year. With the beginning of formal football practice comes the excitement of a new year and commitments for success.
This is not the first these players have worked hard preparing for the upcoming schedule. Many have been lifting weights and other conditioning work, along with competing in non-contact, 7-on-7 competitions – challenging a team’s passing game. The Orioles can boast of winning all of the seven multi-team competitions this summer. Notable wins include beating larger programs from Ann Arbor Pioneer and Grand Blanc.
Varsity Coach Sparks is pleased with the success, and the commitment of these young men, but realizes their work has only begun. “It is inspiring to see so many of our players working hard over the summer. The 7-on-7 victories are exciting, and a great way to challenge our program, but we know success will only come if we increase the intensity of our preparation.”
With the varsity home opener coming fast – Thursday, August 26th against the Olivet Eagles – and the junior varsity season opener away the day before; Oriole gridironers and coaches don’t have much time to prepare. So, they brave the heat, and push themselves to be prepared to leave it all on the field this fall.
Be part of the excitement of Oriole football. Take an evening and cheer for your varsity team at home games on August 26th, September 2nd, and October 1st, 8th, and 15th; and the junior varsity team at home games on September 9th, 16th, and 23rd, and October 21st. Go Orioles!
