City of East Lansing issued the following announcement on Jan 14.

At the East Lansing City Council meeting this past Tuesday, Jan. 11, City Council approved the adoption of Ordinance No. 1511 – an ordinance to regulate moped use and parking within the City.

The ordinance goes into effect on January 19, 2022 and prohibits parking a moped at a bicycle rack, designated bicycle parking area and on sidewalks within City limits.

Moped drivers can park in regular vehicle parking spaces and pay any applicable parking rates for that parking location. Moped parking is also available at designated moped parking areas inside downtown East Lansing’s Albert Avenue garage (188 Albert Ave.), Division Street garage (181 Division St.) and Grove Street garage (330 Grove St.) with a moped permit.

Community members can purchase a moped permit by calling the East Lansing Finance Department at (517) 319-6860. Moped permits cost $60 and are valid for six months, from January-June and July-December.
