The City of Midland reminds residents to help keep our local waterways clean and free of garbage and pollutants.
In addition to being a violation of the City’s Code of Ordinances, dumping materials into waterways has the potential to harm the environment and increases the likelihood of overland flooding during rain events.
Here are some tips for keeping our waterways in tip-top shape:
- Keep grass clippings and branches from accumulating in ditches or streams on or near your property.
- If you observe any waterways adjacent to your property that are filled with sediment, vegetation, and/or debris, contact the City’s Wastewater Department (989-837-3500) and a crew will be sent to assess the conditions of that area.
- If you see someone dumping debris into ditches or streams, call 9-1-1 to report it.
- While City crews clear off street drains (catch basins) on a periodic basis, leaves, brush, and debris can quickly accumulate between maintenance visits. Periodically check and clear the catch basins near your property to ensure proper water drainage at all times.
