The Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine will hold its inaugural Physician Assistant Medicine Program commencement on Friday, August 23. This milestone comes at a time when there is a critical shortage of healthcare professionals across the state and nation. Physician assistants (PAs) are increasingly in demand to help expand access to medical care. The graduates from MSU's program have trained alongside physicians, adopting a team-based approach that aims to improve efficiency and patient outcomes.
Among the 32 graduates, 17 have already secured employment contracts, and another five have offers under consideration. Of those who have accepted positions, 76% are remaining in Michigan, and 71% will work in health professional shortage areas or medically underserved communities.
The MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine was recently recognized as the top institution in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for producing Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine graduates who practice in regions facing healthcare professional shortages.
