The 2024 election has concluded, and discussions have shifted to the policies the new administration will implement. However, it remains important to understand the factors that influenced the results, particularly in Michigan and nationwide. Experts from Michigan State University, including Matt Grossmann, Nura Sediqe, and Meghan Wilson, analyzed these trends.

Sediqe noted an increase in support for Jill Stein among Arab and MENA voters who identified as ideologically liberal or conservative. Grossmann observed that Republicans made gains among Hispanic voters regardless of education level. Wilson emphasized Black voters' commitment to democracy despite disillusionment with both major parties.

Grossmann highlighted a growing education divide with white college graduates predominantly supporting Democrats. He also noted shifts within voter coalitions towards Republicans among younger college-educated individuals and Hispanic voters.

Michigan saw higher turnout compared to most states, with Harris performing better in swing states like Michigan than nationally. The pre-election polls accurately predicted limited split-ticket voting.

Wilson discussed local political engagement among Black voters following Mike Duggan's decision not to seek re-election as mayor of Detroit. She stressed the importance of maintaining engagement at local levels.

Sediqe explained how issues related to Gaza affected Arab American and MENA voters' support for Biden in Michigan. Grossmann commented on the implications of Michigan's House flipping to Republican control due to successful redistricting reflecting voter preferences.

The experts provided insights into how various demographic groups influenced the election outcomes and what this means for future elections.
