Patients in Michigan are set to benefit from the latest development in the longstanding partnership between Michigan State University (MSU) and Henry Ford Health. The two institutions have signed a master services agreement (MSA), effective January 1, which aims to enhance clinical service integration.
The MSA builds on the 2021 Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences partnership agreement. It seeks to expand service offerings, improve access to quality care for Michigan residents, and implement best practices.
Seth Ciabotti, CEO of MSU Health Care, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We’re excited to work alongside our colleagues at Henry Ford Health to strengthen patient care. This agreement means our patients will have more options for medical services and access to the latest technology and innovation with the same commitment to excellence."
The Henry Ford Medical Group, comprising over 2,700 providers nationwide, is contributing operational and financial expertise through shared leadership with MSU. MSU Health Care plans to adopt established systems from Henry Ford Health and leverage economies of scale.
Steven Kalkanis, CEO of the Henry Ford Medical Group and Henry Ford Hospital, highlighted their mutual respect: “One of the many qualities that initially drew MSU and Henry Ford Health together in 2021 is our shared respect for each other’s clinical expertise.”
Key elements of this new agreement include joint recruitment for specialized care within Michigan, integration into Henry Ford’s Clinically Integrated Network by MSU Health Care, migration to a unified electronic health record system by January 2026, future investments in pharmacy and laboratory operations, as well as financial investments aimed at strengthening research capacity.
Adnan Munkarah, board chair of Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences stated: “Research, medical education and medical care are foundational to our partnership vision.”
Norm Hubbard added that they have made significant strides toward their goals: “We’ve established a joint research enterprise... Clinical alignment paves the way to complete our original vision.”
