Elissa Slotkin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan's 7th district, recently shared her thoughts and activities on social media. Slotkin has been serving in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Mike Bishop. Born in New York City in 1976, she is now based in Lansing and holds a BA from Cornell University.

On February 22, 2025, Slotkin expressed concern over recent developments within the military through a tweet. She stated, "The purge of senior officers who have served with distinction on the battlefield and off should send a shiver down the spine of any American who cares about an apolitical military." She emphasized that historically, leaders from both political parties have largely refrained from politicizing military activities.

Later that day, Slotkin shared her engagement with local communities during her visit to Michigan's Upper Peninsula via another tweet. She mentioned, "It was important to me in my first weeks as a Senator to make it up to the UP. Today I am in Iron Mountain meeting with local elected officials, union and business leaders, VA hospital staff, and attending the Continental Cup Ski Jump competition."

In a subsequent post on February 22, 2025, Slotkin highlighted her visit to the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center. She described it as "A critical stop" during her trip to the Upper Peninsula and noted its reputation as one of the best VA centers nationally. As part of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, she aimed to understand how potential staffing cuts might impact its operations.
