Consumers Energy and Michigan State University (MSU) are celebrating a partnership involving $250,000 in financial support, aimed at encouraging college graduates to remain and work in Michigan.

A ceremony held at MSU's East Wilson Hall, attended by MSU and Consumers Energy officials as well as state representative Julie Brixie, marked the occasion. East Wilson Hall provides residential and classroom space for the College of Engineering’s Cornerstone and Residential Experience (CoRe) program.

“We’re grateful for the continued and generous partnership of Consumers Energy as Michigan State trains the workforce of today and tomorrow,” said MSU President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, Ph.D. He emphasized the importance of the CoRe program in guiding the success of engineering students.

Consumers Energy has a history of supporting MSU, starting with a $150,000 contribution in 2009. Chris Fultz, Consumers Energy’s vice-president of natural gas operations, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. "We’re thrilled to work with our friends at Michigan State University to create opportunities for today’s students in tomorrow’s high-skill and high-demand fields," Fultz said.

The CoRe program functions as an integrated first-year academic initiative, offering students access to a range of co-curricular and support activities. These include presentations, seminars, corporate tours, tutoring, academic advising, and social events.

The Consumers Energy Foundation, as the philanthropic branch of Consumers Energy, continues to invest in essential areas such as people, the planet, and prosperity in the Great Lakes State. Throughout the year, Consumers officials engage with MSU students to highlight career possibilities and promote interest in the energy sector.
