Michigan State University has announced the formation of the Green and White Council, a new group that aims to bolster the state's workforce and economy. The council is composed of leaders from various sectors and is co-chaired by Matt Elliott and Sanjay Gupta. The initiative is part of MSU President Kevin M. Guskiewicz's vision to position the university as a key driver of talent and innovation in Michigan.

President Guskiewicz stated, "Michigan State University has over 50,000 students enrolled in more than 400 academic programs. We are truly Michigan's state university and a leading talent activator for our state, our nation, and the world." He emphasized the council's role in refining efforts to address workforce demands and preparing future leaders.

Unveiled during Guskiewicz's investiture, the council's mission is to create and implement initiatives that support the university's strategic goals. The co-chairs, appointed in February, will work to ensure that MSU continues to produce the talent needed for future challenges, connect graduates to careers in Michigan, and unleash the university's assets to spur economic growth.

The council includes industry leaders like Linda Apsey of ITC Holdings, Kofi Bonner of Bedrock Detroit, and former U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow. They, along with other members, will convene throughout 2025 to drive impactful initiatives.

MSU's presence across Michigan already includes significant partnerships in cities such as Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Lansing, and community collaborations in Flint, Kalamazoo, and the Upper Peninsula. With nine nationally ranked programs, MSU is poised to further talent development in diverse industries, including agriculture and nuclear physics.

MSU reports an annual statewide economic impact of $6.81 billion and fosters innovation through its Innovation Center, which helps patent over 150 discoveries each year. The university is recognized for its strengths in agriculture, natural resources, and technology education, including partnerships with Apple's Developer and Manufacturing Academies.

With nearly 300,000 alumni residing in Michigan, MSU continues to play a pivotal role in the state's economic development and innovation landscape.
