Congressman Tom Barrett, who represents Michigan's 7th congressional district, recently shared updates and opinions on social media about local infrastructure projects, internship opportunities, and proposed tax relief for workers.

On August 16, 2025, Barrett highlighted a visit to a roadwork site in Eaton County. He wrote, "It was great to meet with the workers paving Bellevue Highway in Eaton County. Thanks to the Asphalt Pavement Association of Michigan for inviting me to tour the job site this week — and try my hand at driving a roller. I look forward to our ongoing partnership to fix https://t.co/UOscUuO9Cd".

Later that day, Barrett promoted opportunities for students interested in public service. He stated on August 16, 2025: "Congressional internships are a great opportunity to learn about our federal government and the legislative process while serving the people of mid-Michigan. Interested students can learn more and apply for a fall internship at https://t.co/1QjmB9Yb2J https://t.co/xsNKZ4b0Oe".

The following day, Barrett addressed proposed changes regarding taxation on tipped income. On August 17, 2025 he posted: "No tax on tips means that delivery drivers, servers, barbers, and thousands of working-class Michiganders will keep more of their hard-earned paycheck. This is historic financial relief for the working class, not billionaires.

Internships in congressional offices are often sought by college students interested in careers in public policy or government. These positions provide experience with legislative processes and constituent services.

Efforts to improve infrastructure such as highway maintenance have been ongoing priorities in Michigan due to aging roads and increased transportation needs across the state.

Proposals aimed at eliminating taxes on tips have been discussed at both state and federal levels as ways to increase take-home pay for service industry workers.
