Sen. Elissa Slotkin, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, addressed issues of cybersecurity, political violence, and competition with China in a series of posts on September 12, 2025.

In a post at 16:00 UTC, Slotkin wrote: "If China is going to target our power grid and local water systems, we need to take offline the servers they are using to do so. And if a cyberattack in the U.S. causes the same damage as a physical strike, we need to treat it as an act of war."

Later that day at 20:19 UTC, she commented on an incident involving Michigan's Lieutenant Governor: "I am grateful and relieved that Lt. Gov. Gilchrist and his family are safe. Michigan is not immune to the threats of political violence, and decent people, no matter where you are politically, must stay united in the condemnation of political violence."

At 21:00 UTC on the same day, Slotkin emphasized technological competition with China by stating: "We’re in a tech race with China– and there’s no area more important to win than on artificial intelligence."

Slotkin has represented Michigan’s 7th District since succeeding Mike Bishop in 2019. She was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. Slotkin graduated from Cornell University with a BA in 1998.
