Senator Elissa Slotkin, currently representing Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on September 15, 2025, covering topics from vaccine policy to legislative efforts on genetic screening and a significant speaking engagement.
In her first post of the day, Slotkin commented on recent actions by Secretary Kennedy regarding vaccines: "Secretary Kennedy has been slashing and burning anything related to vaccines." (September 15, 2025).
Later that evening, she reflected on a professional milestone: "This is one of the best opportunities I’ve had since becoming Senator: I got to speak at the 10th Anniversary of the Carl Levin Center for Legislative Oversight and Democracy (@Levin_Center) at Wayne State University Law School (@_WayneLaw). Senator Levin was Michigan’s Senator" (September 15, 2025).
Slotkin also shared a personal story connected to her legislative work: "I lost my mother to ovarian cancer in 2011 when she was 64, and my grandmother at age 39. Too many lack access to the genetic screening they need, and our bill takes steps to help by expanding Medicare’s coverage of genetic testing and treatment." (September 15, 2025).
Elissa Slotkin has served in Congress since replacing Mike Bishop in 2019. She was born in New York City in 1976 and resides in Lansing. Slotkin graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998.
