Senator Elissa Slotkin, who represents Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing concerns over health care access and the looming threat of a government shutdown.
On September 17, 2025, Slotkin alerted followers to her upcoming remarks on the Senate floor: "WATCH: I’m speaking soon on the Senate Floor about how, thanks to this President, you are either going to lose your health care or see costs go up."
Later that evening, she reiterated her stance with another post: "I took to the Senate floor tonight to talk about a very simple idea. In the richest, most powerful country in the world, every American should have access to health care they can afford." This message emphasized her commitment to affordable health care for all Americans.
On September 18, Slotkin addressed negotiations surrounding an impending deadline and potential government shutdown: "We’re coming up on a big deadline. I don’t want a shutdown. But if my republican colleagues want my vote, they’re going to have to act like adults and come and talk to me about it. You’re going to have to talk to me about health care."
Elissa Slotkin has represented Michigan’s 7th District since 2019 after replacing Mike Bishop in Congress. Born in New York City in 1976 and currently residing in Lansing, she holds a BA from Cornell University (FACTS 1-4).
