Sen. Elissa Slotkin, who represents Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of tweets addressing rising health insurance costs and expressing support for labor unions.
On September 18, 2025, Slotkin shared an example from her constituency: "A man in Macomb County sent me a letter he received from his health insurance company. It’s going up 16% because of what this President has done on health care."
Later that day, she directly attributed these increases to former President Donald Trump: "When you get that letter and you gasp about how your prices have gone up on your private insurance, you should understand exactly who gave you that price increase. That is Donald Trump."
The following morning, Slotkin shifted focus to organized labor in Michigan: "Michigan Teamsters vs. Everybody! Strong labor unions are central to a powerful working class, and it's great to be in the fight with these hard-working Michiganders."
Slotkin has represented Michigan's 7th District since 2019 after succeeding Mike Bishop. She was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. Slotkin holds a BA from Cornell University (Fact 1, Fact 2, Fact 3, Fact 4).
