Senator Elissa Slotkin, who represents Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on her social media account on October 8, 2025, addressing healthcare concerns, military conduct, and community safety.

In a post published at 12:30 p.m. UTC, Slotkin criticized recent health care legislation linked to former President Trump, stating, "President Trump’s big beautiful bill has resulted in a health care crisis that is now upon us. Next year, everyone is either at risk of losing their health care or paying more. So, we did a little math to estimate what that might look like for a couple in Lansing. Their health".

Later the same day, at 3:04 p.m. UTC, she addressed the need for accountability within the Defense Department by referencing events during protests in 2020. Slotkin wrote, "We need people at the Defense Department who will stand up to illegal orders. This is not a hypothetical exercise: During protests in 2020, President Trump wanted the 82nd Airborne sent to Washington, D.C., to, in his words, 'shoot them in the legs.'"

At 8:21 p.m. UTC on October 8, Slotkin highlighted legislative efforts following a tragedy in Grand Blanc. She said, "We owe it to the Grand Blanc community to turn this tragedy into action. That's why @SenGaryPeters and I introduced the Pray Safe Act to ensure everyone, no matter their faith, can practice their religion without fear of intimidation or violence."

Elissa Slotkin has represented Michigan's 7th District since replacing Mike Bishop in 2019 and currently resides in Lansing. Born in New York City in 1976 and a graduate of Cornell University with a BA degree obtained in 1998, Slotkin’s background informs her focus on issues affecting both her local constituents and national policy concerns.
