State Representative Joseph Pavlov appeared before the House Rules Committee this week to advocate for House Bill 4929, which aims to simplify Michigan’s professional licensing process. The proposed legislation would allow individuals to voluntarily relinquish their state license under the public health code if they decide to leave their profession. This change would relieve them from ongoing education requirements and renewal fees that are no longer relevant.

“If someone leaves a profession, they shouldn’t be stuck following rules that no longer apply,” Pavlov said. “There’s no point to government cracking down on retirees and people who switched careers for not keeping up with training or paperwork for a license they don’t ever plan to use again. This bill makes it easier for professionals to close that chapter and move on.”

Pavlov described the bill as part of a larger initiative intended to update state regulations and make them more practical. He noted that several bills designed to reduce regulatory burdens are currently being reviewed in House committees and voted on by lawmakers. HB 4929 is still under discussion in the House Rules Committee.
