Michigan lawmakers hold event supporting second amendment rights at state capitol

State Representatives James DeSana, Joseph Fox, Mike Hoadley, and Steve Carra organized the “Michigan Defenders of the 2nd Amendment” event on the east steps of the Michigan State Capitol. The event included remarks from lawmakers as well as representatives from advocacy groups such as Women for Gun Rights, Michigan Open Carry, and Great Lakes Gun Rights. The participants expressed their support for gun rights in Michigan.

“Today we launched an effort to help restore rights protected by the Constitution,” said DeSana. “Michigan Defenders of the Second Amendment brings together a broad coalition of Gun rights groups and legislators who are passionate about protecting our right to self-defense.”

Marcy Jankovich, Michigan State Director of Women for Gun Rights, stated: “Women are the fastest growing demographic of gun owners, and today they were welcomed and heard at the inaugural meeting of Michigan Defenders of the Second Amendment. Women for Gun Rights is pleased to be in the fight, taking a stand with other Michiganders standing for the Second Amendment.”

During their speeches, lawmakers discussed legislative efforts aimed at strengthening Second Amendment protections. These include proposals to revise Michigan’s red flag laws and advance constitutional carry legislation that would allow responsible citizens to carry firearms without additional government restrictions.

Fox commented on these initiatives: “Our constitutional right to bear arms has been under attack. We need patriots to take a stand and demand action to maintain our rights to hunt, self-protection, and to defend ourselves from tyranny. We are going to fight hard in this uphill battle to stand for the Second Amendment, and we need people to join with us until we see real progress. Today was just the beginning of a new battle here in Michigan!”

Hoadley added: “This is a great opportunity to bring legislators, patriots, and firearm groups together to talk about how to defend our constitutional rights. We are in this together, and we need to work together to inform the public and dispel the fearmongering about legal firearms. I have drafted and introduced as many pro-second amendment bills as almost anyone, and that’s because this cause is important to me and to everyone who came out to make their voices heard today.”

The event reflected ongoing collaboration between state lawmakers and advocacy organizations focused on preserving what they describe as responsible gun ownership traditions in Michigan.
