Over the weekend, The Detroit News reported that former Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers claimed without evidence that voter fraud affected his 2024 race against Democrat Elissa Slotkin. Rogers specifically alleged that “a single van carrying ballots in Detroit ‘swung’ his 2024 race against Democrat Elissa Slotkin.” This marks a shift from Rogers’s earlier stance; in a Washington Post op-ed published on January 5, 2021, he described unfounded stolen-election claims as “conspiracy and hearsay” and said denying certified election results without evidence was an “abdication of the higher responsibility to our Constitution.”

In response to Rogers’s recent statements, Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Joey Hannum issued a statement:

“Mike Rogers is shamefully pushing the same baseless conspiracy theories he once condemned. Rather than accept that Michiganders rejected him at the ballot box, Rogers is undermining faith in our elections and spreading lies about Detroit voters. It’s clear why Rogers is scared of losing again: He’s a failed candidate from Florida running on a toxic agenda that’s spiking costs for working people while giving tax handouts to millionaires like himself. Michigan voters saw right through him last election, and he knows they’re going to reject him again next year.”
