A Michigan state representative honored the recently crowned Miss Wheelchair Michigan for being an advocate of people with disabilities.

Rep. Graham Filler (R-93) hosted Zoey Harrison at the State Capitol in early March.

He called the 10-year-old Ithaca resident a “tremendous advocate for individuals with disabilities and who are in wheelchairs,” in a Facebook post. “Our community is proud of you Zoey and blessed by your work.”

Harrison was named the 2020-2021 Miss Wheelchair Michigan for her age group in November.

Harrison was recognized for helping create a coat that is easier for people with disabilities to put on. The design came from frustration during school.

“I came home really frustrated like I couldn’t go outside to do anything,” she said in a 2018 interview with NCB25News.com.

According to multiple media reports the coats Harrison and her mother, Jennifer, created received nationwide attention and sparked worldwide orders.

“In the last two weeks, sales have absolutely gone through the roof,” John Harrison, Zoey's father told ABC 13 On Your Side in a December 2018 interview. “Every single day, we're making coats, taking them to manufacturing, picking them back up from manufacturing, processing, then shipping orders.”
