CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY: Students support mid-Michigan school music programs

S

Central Michigan University issued the following announcement on Nov. 16.

The Central Michigan University chapter of the National Association for Music Education has raised $1,000 to support music programs in two mid-Michigan school districts.

With help from Kristin Pagels, director of music events in the School of Music, and Logos Galore, a local screen-printing company, the chapter created and sold School of Music apparel as a fundraiser. The proceeds were divided between the music programs of Beal City and Shepherd public schools to support music education and provide more opportunities for students passionate about music.

"We knew that we wanted to give money to local schools because of COVID-19 and how it hurt schools' music programs and their funding," said Andrew Warriner, a fourth-year CMU student from Marshall, Michigan, majoring in music education. "We were originally going to give to one school, but because we had such a successful fundraiser, we're able to give to two."

NAfME promotes and supports music education in schools and advocates musical involvement for all. CMU's chapter has 35 active student members who share their passion by creating valuable experiences in music education.
