Charlotte Public Schools issued the following announcement on Dec 21.
Two of our very own Oriole teachers have been nominated by a member of our school’s educational community for 2022-23 Michigan Teacher of the Year (MTOY). Congratulations Ms. Emily (Lapinski) Welling AND Ms. Tamilyn Nixon! You have been recognized as an outstanding teacher leader!
The Michigan Teacher of the Year program annually selects ten Regional Teachers of the Year (RTOYs), one of whom is chosen as the MTOY. These ten teachers work together throughout the school year as the Michigan Teacher Leadership Advisory Council (MTLAC) to provide valuable input and expertise to the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), helping to improve education in our state. The RTOYs and MTOY serve as representatives and advocates for Michigan's nearly 90,000 teachers at the state level, sharing the experiences of themselves, their colleagues and their students with education leaders to help inform policies at the state level. For more information about activities the RTOYs and MTOY partake in each year, please visit the MTOY program webpage.
We know our teachers are amazing but to have TWO nominated from our district is proof that we have an exceptional team of educators here in Charlotte! We could not be more proud! Congratulations Ms. Welling and Ms. Nixon!
