Eighteen Michigan State University track and field athletes have been selected to compete in the NCAA East First Round Regional. The event will take place in Lexington, Kentucky, from May 22 to May 25. The group includes eight women and ten men who secured their spots by achieving top-48 marks in their respective events during the outdoor season.

The Spartans are aiming for a top-12 finish in their events to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. These championships are scheduled to occur at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, from June 5 to June 8. They will face competitors from the West Regional, which is happening in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

This year marks a significant achievement for MSU as it sends its largest contingent of student-athletes to an NCAA preliminary since 2019 when 25 Spartans were selected. In recent years, MSU had 12 qualifiers last year, 17 in 2022, and 15 in 2021. The NCAA Championships were canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19.

The announcement comes shortly after the men's team recorded their best finish at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in fifteen years.
