Arianna Ridderbusch, a two-time alumna of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences (ComArtSci) at Michigan State University, is making significant contributions to her alma mater. Currently serving as Vice President of Community Impact at Michigan State University Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU), Ridderbusch is involved in initiatives that align with her company's values through corporate philanthropy.
"We’re able to support (students) in a variety of ways," said Arianna Ridderbusch regarding her role at MSUFCU. "That includes scholarships, mentorships and partnerships with every college, athletics, and alumni. For me, as a ComArtSci graduate, I also enjoy participating in a variety of programs. It’s just been such a rewarding experience to return to the college and be able to give back through an amazing organization."
MSUFCU supports Ignite the Future (ITF), an initiative by ComArtSci aimed at empowering first-generation college students and those from historically marginalized backgrounds. The program features mentorship opportunities guiding students from high school to their post-college careers. Ridderbusch actively participates as one of these mentors.
"Last year was super exciting," she said about inviting marketing and community impact teams for a networking day involving speed rounds for students to meet professionals. "It’s such a pleasure to be able to figure out how can we support these first-year, first-generation students."
Additionally, MSUFCU has contributed laptops for ITF students and led the renovation of the former MSU Dairy Store into "In Good Taste," a marketplace and social gathering spot within the Student Union. Ignite the Future students have been invited by MSUFCU to create a mural for this new space.
Ridderbusch is also collaborating with the Games and Entertainment Lab on developing a virtual reality game designed to enhance financial literacy skills among players.
"Getting to leverage student talent to share (the game) with our whole membership is really exciting," she commented.
As Ridderbusch approaches her second year as an Ignite the Future mentor, she reflects on her experiences positively. She finds joy in assisting students throughout their academic journeys.
"My former mentee was looking at internships and where she wanted to go," Ridderbusch recalled. "We were able to chat about how there's different steps you can take that will get you there, and that it’s not always this linear line." Her mentee successfully secured an internship with Consumers Energy—a moment that brought great excitement for Ridderbusch.
