In the Global Employability University Ranking 2025, published by Times Higher Education, Michigan State University (MSU) has been recognized as a leading institution for producing employable graduates. MSU ranks eighth among U.S. public universities and 31st overall in the country. This ranking highlights universities that are believed by top company recruiters to best prepare students for the workplace.

Karin Hanson, director of the MSU Career Services Network, emphasized the university's commitment to professional development: “We are dedicated to infusing professional development and real-world experiences into our curriculum to be certain Spartans are ready to make an impact immediately upon graduation.” She added that their strategic model allows career services to adapt based on industry expectations and be accessible across campus.

MSU reports a 93% placement rate for bachelor’s degree graduates within six months of graduation, with more than 60% employed in Michigan. The university community comprises over 12,000 faculty and staff members and an alumni network nearing half a million people.

Rochisshil Varma, a recent graduate from MSU's College of Engineering who started his career at Microsoft, shared his experience: “MSU not only provided a world-class education but also fostered an environment rich with resources and exposure to career-shaping experiences.” He highlighted how his courses combined technical expertise with business acumen, preparing him for challenges ahead.

The ranking evaluates key employability drivers such as work expertise, graduate skills like critical thinking and communication, digital mindset adaptability, internationality in working across cultures, specialization in specific fields, and academic excellence.

Mark Largent, vice provost and dean of Undergraduate Education at MSU stated: “We earnestly believe that every student admitted to MSU has the capacity to learn, thrive and graduate, and we are committed to supporting every student to the best of our ability.”

Additionally recognized by U.S. News & World Report among public institutions nationally for learning communities, education abroad programs, and service-learning initiatives; MSU boasts nine No. 1-ranked programs including its graduate programs in elementary and secondary education which have held top positions for three decades.
