Following a national search, Michigan State University Interim Provost Thomas Jeitschko has recommended Titus Awokuse for the position of vice provost and dean for International Studies and Programs at Michigan State University. This appointment will be effective from February 7, 2025. Awokuse will also assume the role of Red Cedar Distinguished Professor of Agricultural and Applied Economics. Before the MSU Board of Trustees approves this recommendation, Awokuse will serve as vice provost and dean designee starting January 15.
Awokuse's responsibilities in his new role will include overseeing twelve area and thematic centers, eight student and scholar programs, eight offices dedicated to international services and support, along with several globally-focused units on campus.

He is also an active consultant to governments, international agencies, NGOs, private businesses while maintaining leadership roles within professional associations related to agricultural economics.
Reflecting on his new role at MSU, Awokuse stated: “I am honored with this opportunity to advance global programs... I am deeply committed to promoting cross-campus opportunities.”
Awokuse will take over from Steven Hanson who transitions into retirement after contributing significantly as vice provost over more than ten years.
Hanson expressed confidence in his successor: “Dr. Awokuse is an exceptional leader... ISP holds a distinctive place among peer universities... I am excited it will continue under Dr. Awokuse’s guidance.”
