Representative Elissa Slotkin, who has been serving Michigan’s 7th District in the U.S. Congress since 2019, recently shared her views on several pressing issues via Twitter. Slotkin, a New York City native now residing in Lansing, addressed topics concerning law enforcement and the auto industry.

On January 31, 2025, Rep. Slotkin expressed her support for local law enforcement through a meeting with Calhoun County Detective Jon Pignataro, Vice President of MIPOAM. In her tweet, she stated: "Our law enforcement officers have to deal with the reality of the decisions made in Washington. This week, I was glad to meet with Calhoun Co. Detective and VP of @MIPOAM, Jon Pignataro to discuss how we work together and ensure local law enforcement has the resources they need."

In another tweet on the same day, Slotkin highlighted concerns regarding tariffs impacting automakers. She warned that without exemptions for automakers, tariffs could significantly increase car prices: "So without some sort of carve-out for automakers, tariffs will hit nearly every car and make them more expensive — with estimates as high as $6k per vehicle. Every Michigan auto company just lost sales. And every Michigan auto worker’s job is less secure."

Slotkin further elaborated on the integration of the auto industry across North America in a subsequent tweet: "First, our auto industry and autoworkers. The U.S., Canada and Mexico are an integrated market — no car made in Mexico or Canada is without U.S. parts, and no car made in Michigan is without parts from Canada and Mexico. Parts can sometimes move across the border 3 or 4 times."
