Anmar Razak has been appointed to Michigan’s Statewide Stroke Care Advisory Subcommittee, acknowledging his commitment to advancing stroke care and improving patient outcomes. The subcommittee supports the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services by providing expertise on clinical and operational aspects of stroke care.

Razak, who is the chief of the cerebrovascular disease division at Michigan State University (MSU) and medical director of UM Health-Sparrow’s comprehensive stroke center, began his three-year term in January. He aims to improve statewide protocols so that emergency medical services (EMS) transport stroke patients to the most suitable care facilities.

"Timely detection and treatment are critical to improving survival rates and minimizing disability," said Razak. "By collaborating on enhanced protocols for EMS, we can ensure that stroke patients are quickly routed to the right care, increasing their chances for a better outcome."

Razak serves as a faculty member in MSU's Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology within both the College of Osteopathic Medicine and College of Human Medicine. He holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Toronto and earned his MBBS with distinction from the University of the West Indies in 2004. His training includes a neurology residency at MSU followed by advanced fellowship training in vascular neurology and endovascular surgical neuroradiology at MSU and UM Health-Sparrow Lansing.

Specializing in minimally invasive endovascular treatments for various cerebrovascular conditions, Razak plays a crucial role in overseeing UM Health-Sparrow’s comprehensive stroke center—the only one in mid-Michigan—through the Neuro Care Network collaboration between MSU Health Care and U-M Health.
