Elissa Slotkin, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Michigan's 7th district, has been vocal on various issues through her social media presence. She replaced Mike Bishop in 2019 and has continued to engage with her constituents and broader public discourse.

On March 9, 2025, Slotkin addressed the use of tariffs as a protective measure for industries. She emphasized that while tariffs are important, they should not be applied indiscriminately or haphazardly. In particular, she cautioned against equating Canada with China in trade relations. "Tariffs are an important tool in the toolkit to protect industry. But tariffs shouldn't be thrown around in this chaotic, will-he-won’t-he way — and we shouldn’t treat Canada like China."

The following day, on March 10, Slotkin highlighted the case of Andrew Lennox from Hamburg Township. Lennox is a veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and later worked at the VA until he was allegedly forced out due to decisions by DOGE and Elon Musk. Slotkin criticized arbitrary cuts as ineffective government practice quoting Lennox’s perspective on governmental efficiency: "After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Andrew Lennox...was pushed out by DOGE and Elon Musk....arbitrary cuts are not how you make the government work better…"

Later that same day, Slotkin announced her initiative to connect more directly with constituents through a telephone town hall scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 PM. This effort reflects her commitment to engaging with those she represents and listening to their concerns: "Last week I talked about the importance of elected officials listening to their constituents...I am hosting my first telephone town hall."
