Michigan State University (MSU) and Apple are collaborating to launch the Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit this summer. They aim to enhance the operations of small and medium manufacturing companies across the U.S. with this new initiative, located in Detroit's First National Building. The academy will offer a mix of in-person and virtual programming.
Apple has announced its commitment to advancing American innovation and high-skill manufacturing. The collaboration with MSU will focus on training and supporting the new wave of U.S. manufacturers. "The Apple Manufacturing Academy will train businesses across America to implement smart manufacturing techniques that are creating opportunity and shaping the future of technology," stated Sabih Khan, Apple's senior vice president of Operations. He added that Apple is eager to work with MSU to boost American manufacturing leadership and help more companies innovate and grow.
This program will be accessible to businesses nationwide. With the collaboration of Apple engineers and MSU experts, the academy will provide guidance to businesses on utilizing artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing techniques. A free curriculum will be available, including training in project management, manufacturing process optimization, and vocational and leadership skills, aimed at improving productivity and efficiency in supply chains.
MSU President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, Ph.D., expressed pride in this collaboration: "With our strong programs in supply chain, logistics, engineering and packaging and our commitment to be an industry leader in AI advancements, Michigan State is a perfect partner for this new effort, and we greatly appreciate the ongoing collaboration with Apple." He noted the alignment of this initiative with MSU's mission to engage with the community and address global challenges.
Additionally, MSU continues its existing partnership with Apple through the Apple Developer Academy. Supported by the Gilbert Family Foundation, this program has been successful, graduating about 200 participants each year since 2021. Applications are currently open for the fall 2025 cohort.
