Congressman Tom Barrett has announced the reopening of the Social Security Administration (SSA) field office in Owosso, Michigan. The office had been closed for several months, impacting residents of Shiawassee County who rely on its services.

The office resumed operations today, with business hours set from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Congressman Barrett expressed satisfaction with the development, stating, "This is a big win for Shiawassee County and the residents who depend on the Owosso field office for access to benefit services." He acknowledged the cooperation of the Social Security Administration and the General Services Administration in addressing local concerns and reopening the facility.

Barrett had previously sent a letter on May 5th to Leland Dudek, Acting Commissioner of the SSA, urging an immediate restoration of in-person services at this location.

The closure was due to unresolved facility issues at the SSA office located at 1350 E Main Street in Owosso. This included dealing with a persistent odor problem that had affected service delivery. During this period, many residents were compelled to travel long distances to access necessary benefits and services.
