Congressman Tom Barrett of Michigan's 7th District has expressed his support for the recently passed H.R. 1, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The legislation was approved by the House of Representatives and aims to address several key issues that Barrett believes are crucial for his constituents in mid-Michigan.

Barrett stated, "The people of mid-Michigan sent me to Congress to do the hard work necessary to lower the cost of living, secure our border, and unleash American energy. The legislation we passed today makes good on those promises and more."

The bill includes measures such as delivering significant tax cuts for working-class Americans and small businesses, eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay, and providing relief for seniors collecting Social Security benefits. It also increases the child tax credit to further support families nationwide.

In addition to financial relief efforts, H.R. 1 addresses Medicaid integrity by requiring able-bodied adults without dependents to engage in work or volunteer activities while removing illegal immigrants from program eligibility. Barrett emphasized his focus on protecting vulnerable populations: "While Democrats try to scare people into believing the sky is falling, I remain focused on protecting the most vulnerable, reinvesting in America’s future, and putting more money back in people’s pockets."

Key provisions include cutting taxes for middle-class families earning between $30,000 and $80,000 annually by up to 15%, enhancing adoption tax credits, and strengthening paid family leave credits.

The act also prioritizes securing America's southern border with a substantial investment in building infrastructure along the U.S.-Mexico border. This includes funding for a wall extension, advanced surveillance technology for border patrol agents, and hiring additional personnel across immigration enforcement agencies.

Further objectives of H.R. 1 involve bolstering domestic energy production by rescinding certain Department of Energy funds deemed ineffective under current programs while expediting processes related to cross-border energy projects.

Finally, investments within this legislative package extend toward military enhancement efforts alongside federal aviation modernization initiatives aimed at upgrading air traffic control systems throughout America’s skies.
