Senator Elissa Slotkin, representing Michigan's 7th district in the U.S. Congress, shared her views on recent military actions through a series of tweets. The posts reflect her concerns about political interference with military operations and the deployment of National Guard troops.
In a tweet dated June 8, 2025, Senator Slotkin expressed concern over certain actions that she believes could undermine the apolitical nature of the military. She stated: "I worked at the Pentagon and the CIA for Democratic and Republican presidents. This kind of action should send a chill down the spine of anyone concerned about protecting the apolitical military, and minimizing an escalation of violence in our streets."
On the same day, Senator Slotkin commented on President Trump's decision to deploy National Guard troops to Los Angeles against local opposition. She noted: "Yesterday, President Trump called up 2,000 National Guard troops to LA over the objections of the governor, mayor, and the LAPD. It's the first time in 60 years that a president has sent troops into a U.S. state without the Governor’s consent." This action marks a significant moment in U.S. history concerning federal intervention in state matters.
Elissa Slotkin was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. A graduate from Cornell University with a BA obtained in 1998, she replaced Mike Bishop as Michigan’s representative in Congress back in 2019.
