Senator Elissa Slotkin, representing Michigan's 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, has recently shared her perspectives on several key issues through a series of tweets.
On June 18, 2025, Slotkin expressed her support for banning cell phones in classrooms to help students focus and build real relationships. She stated, "At school, students should be able to focus, learn, and build real relationships, and we cannot shy away from taking action to support that goal, including banning cell phones in the classroom. Our bill does just that in DoD-run schools."
Later that day, Slotkin commented on the character of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth during a hearing. She remarked that "For our Secretary of Defense, the person who leads our entire military, character matters. Today’s hearing with Secretary Hegseth showed again he only cares about one thing. Pleasing President Trump."
On June 19, 2025, Slotkin addressed concerns regarding Iran and potential military actions. Drawing from her experience in Iraq, she emphasized the risks of prolonged conflict by stating "Iran is bad actor, no question. During my time in Iraq I saw that firsthand. But the real problem moving forward isn’t what a successful strike looks like; it’s what happens next. The real problem is getting into another forever war."
Elissa Slotkin was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. She graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998.
