Senator Elissa Slotkin, representing Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, recently took to social media to highlight concerns regarding potential Medicaid cuts. The tweets underscore the significance of Medicaid for many residents in her state and provide personal stories illustrating its impact.

On July 2, 2025, Slotkin shared a story from Micaela in Adrian who said: “We would not be able to afford health insurance without Medicaid. Our 3 kids would not be able to go to the doctor. We would have to choose between paying our mortgage or getting health insurance.” This statement underscores the financial dilemmas faced by families reliant on Medicaid.

In another tweet on the same day, Slotkin emphasized the widespread reliance on Medicaid across Michigan: "Michiganders rely on Medicaid in every corner of our state. Let's share a few stories and take a look at what's at risk because of the cuts to Medicaid in the President's bill he's trying to ram through Congress." This post indicates Slotkin's concern over proposed legislative changes that could affect healthcare access.

Further emphasizing individual impacts, Slotkin tweeted about Bruce from Ypsilanti who stated: "I would be unable to continue to receive cancer treatments.” This highlights how crucial Medicaid is for individuals with serious health conditions.

Elissa Slotkin has served as a congresswoman since 2019 after succeeding Mike Bishop. She was born in New York City and now resides in Lansing, Michigan.
