Sen. Elissa Slotkin, a U.S. Congress member representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, has recently addressed concerns over law enforcement practices and the impact of President Trump’s legislative initiatives in a series of posts on her social media account.

On July 15, 2025, Slotkin posted: "In recent months, we have seen police, wearing hoodies and masks, make arrests that look more like kidnappings in an authoritarian country. Law enforcement should be required to identify themselves while enforcing our immigration laws." The statement highlights her concerns about the appearance and conduct of police officers during immigration-related arrests.

Later that evening, she announced a public engagement event via social media: "WATCH: We are live at my telephone town hall. We'll be taking questions and discussing the impact of President Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill' on your pocketbook.

The following day, Slotkin shared outcomes from the event: "Last night, I held a tele-town hall with 50,000 Michiganders on President Trump’s 'Big Beautiful Bill.' I took questions from worried Michiganders on everything from health care to the Great Lakes to immigration to food assistance."

Slotkin has represented Michigan’s 7th District since defeating Mike Bishop in 2019. She was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. Slotkin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University (1998).
