Sen. Elissa Slotkin discusses small business support and health care concerns on August visits

Senator Elissa Slotkin, currently representing Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on August 5, 2025, to share insights from a series of meetings with local organizations and businesses in Michigan.

In an early post that day, Slotkin recounted her discussion with the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (WMHCC), stating, "I had the opportunity to sit down with the @WMHCC to discuss how we can support our small businesses in the region. We also discussed the impact of tariffs, how Trump's 'Big Bill' will spike the cost of health care, and as a nation of immigrants, the very real fear within the" (August 5, 2025).

Later that evening, Slotkin highlighted concerns about proposed federal health care cuts during a visit to Corewell Children’s Hospital. She wrote: "At Corewell Children’s Hospital, I heard from health care leaders and professionals about how the President's health care cuts could impact their services." (August 5, 2025).

Concluding her day in St. Joseph at Whirlpool Corporation headquarters, Slotkin praised local manufacturing while addressing economic issues. She posted: "Today’s visit to @WhirlpoolCorp in St. Joseph highlighted the innovation, jobs, and global impact rooted right here in Michigan. Whirlpool is the only American appliance manufacturer where 80% of products sold in the U.S. are made in the U.S. We had important conversations on job" (August 5, 2025).

Slotkin has represented Michigan’s 7th District since defeating Mike Bishop in 2019 and resides in Lansing after being born in New York City in 1976. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University earned in 1998.
