Sen. Elissa Slotkin, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, posted a series of tweets on August 14 and 15, 2025, addressing labor rights at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and concerns over technology sales to China.

On August 14, Slotkin wrote: "Every worker in America should have the right to join a union, including the over 320,000 workers at the VA. The Trump Admin's decision to end that agreement is an attack on collective bargaining everywhere, and it does nothing to improve the quality of care veterans receive." In a subsequent post on the same day, she shared a link without further comment: "https://t.co/fJ7GQGILXR".

Addressing national security and technology exports on August 15, Slotkin stated: "Just because you make a deal doesn't mean it's a good deal. First, President Trump approved selling AI chips to China. Now, he is floating selling them even more powerful chips that would supercharge their AI tech, which the Chinese military will use to develop more dangerous".

Slotkin’s comments follow ongoing debates regarding union rights for federal employees and recent policy decisions related to export controls of advanced technology. The referenced VA agreement pertains to collective bargaining rights previously available to VA workers under past administrations but changed during President Trump’s tenure.

Elissa Slotkin was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. She graduated from Cornell University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
